Craig y Longridge - Climbing Banned

As has been widely predicted recently, climbing at Craig y Longridge in Lancashire has been banned. Anyone trying to climb there will be asked to leave, in fact there is a guy present most of the time who will prevent people even getting to the crag. At present there is no prospect of this situation being resolved quickly.

Had the same problem the week before, but wasn't sure of the details, thanks for confirming what I suspected. I didn't really approach the crag just walked round the corner, saw lots of plant equipment moving around and went home.

Out of interest, what is the going rate for a small crag face and an adjoining narrow strip of land? Anyone got any ideas? Seems to have a very limited range of potential purchasers (pretty much limited to the BMC?) so pressumably not that valuable. Although it could have a knock on devaluing effect on the adjacent development which may up the price I suppose...

This is bad news. This is the Ribble Valley darlings, a terraced house in Clitheroe can't be had for under 100k so whats a 150 yd piece of prime green belt, currently with views worth? A fortune no doubt!

Notwithstanding the impracticality of building on a site as long and thin as this its value as a development site is based on where it lies in relation to the local UDP. If the area is a designated greenfield site then it doesn't matter how good the views are you will never (or at least not for the forseeable future) get permission to develop on it so it will be worth much less than prime development land (which is currently exhorbetant pretty much everywhere - thanks to Grand Designs?). I don't know what the exact nature of the land is but I can't see the value being especially high. I suppose land, like houses, is worth what someones willing to pay for it and if the current owner gets the sense that he could be on to a good thing then the price may well be high. Anyway I hope the venue isn't lost (even if it is polished and too steep to be fun)

It has nothing to do with "Long and Thin" If you put 8 houses along the length you would be pinching maybe 5 - 10m of potential garden from each home which would be significant if you were a developer. Thats my tuppence worth. I could never get off the ground there but i know how much Boggster and the Jecks love the place so i'll miss it too. The Ent
