If you spent any time in Chamonix this August, you may have noticed a missing persons flyers for Blake Hartley. He is a 25 year old Army officer cadet and climber who went missing in the early hours of 8 August, on his way back to the Ile des Barrats campsite. Blake had only just arrived in Chamonix with some other cadets and had yet to go into the mountains. There doesn't seem to be an explanation for his disappearance, although the most obvious seems to be that he might have fallen into the L'Arve River. His family feel that he is still alive and are looking for help from the climbing community. They have set up a website, to find out more about the detail of Blake's disappearance, visit BlakeHartley.com Also, please consider reading his mother's moving account of his last known movements.
