Mujahideen Fighters Train As Mountain Guides

The Italian guiding company, Mountain Wilderness International, are training Mujahideen Fighters in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush to be mountain guides in preparation for an expected rise in popularity of this mountain region to tourists once the country becomes more stabilised. Twenty-two students, including two women were trained in basic mountain and climbing skills. More at the BBC website Afghanistan already has a National Committee on Mountains as part of its fledgling government and there are also plans to set up national parks and mountain preserves in the Nuristan region and the high elevation Wakhan Corridor, home to Afghanistan's highest peaks many of them unclimbed.
