SIBL Round 2 Report

Sunday 18 October saw the second round of the SIBL at Evolution Climbing Centre in Crowborough. This round saw the usually mixture of wacky and serious problems including a lie-down start and one that included a swing on a rock ring which proved very popular if not pretty hard! Guest route setter Gaz Parry (right) pulled out some great problems including a very crimpy problem on the new 45 degree wall.

It didn't take long before Evolution was filling up, with a good showing from the regular competitors as well as plenty of new faces. The comp started at 11am and it didn't take long before the usual friendly SIBL atmosphere took hold and competitors started sending the problems. The rock ring problem had people stumped at first but it wasn't long before some of the strong competitors started latching the end hold. Once again the Westway put in a strong team and the 'home' Evolution team scored well.

The results were compiled and winners found all except the Male Junior. Three competitors had scored the same at 197 each - George Upson, Jonny White and Brendan Gallagher now had to face each other off to decide the final places along with the other head-to-head boys of Barnaby Venthan who had finished top of the Male Juniors with 200 points, and Ed Ratcliff who scored a very impressive 194. The head-to-head was a hard traverse into hands-only campus moves on a traverse of a 45 degree wall. The route was set using holds from this year's head-to-head sponsor Dream Holds and proved a real battle of a route. After the Juniors had battled it out to decide the final places all that was left was to announce the winners of round who were:
