The British Lead Climbing Championships were held at EICA Ratho on the weekend of 6 and 7 September. With titles available in categories ranging from 13 year olds to 44+ there was plenty of exciting competition going on.

In the Senior Lead Female event Shauna Coxsey proved dominant for a second year in succession and is now the reigning British Lead and Bouldering champion; and all this only a few months after breaking her leg bouldering in Magic Wood (UKC Report). The Men's Senior comp was won by Ed Hamer beating local favourite Robbie Phillips into second place.

Rob Adie of the BMC, "It was great to see so many kids in the junior event, showing how far competition climbing has come in the last couple of years, and the senior event was just an awesome display of talent and strength, especially from the podium spots!"

The British Speed Climbing Championships were also held although this particular discipline still appears to be struggling to get a following in this part of the World. The Senior Female Speed category was cancelled due to not enough competitors (4 is the lower limit) and the Mens Senior Speed comp only took place after John Roberts, one of the route setters, was persuaded to enter. Things may be looking up though since the Junior comps did take place with Eleanor Hopkins beating Rachel Carr for the girls, and Orrin Coley taking the honours ahead of Dominic Burns for the boys.
