K6 West - 2014 Piolets d'Or WinnerVideo

© Latitude Films

In this excellent film from Latitude Photography we see Raphael Slawinski, Ian Welsted and Jesse Huey travel to Pakistan to climb K6 West. At the moment of their departure down the KKH, they learn of the massacre at Nanga Parbat base camp. Each is now faced with a decision. As Jesse returns home, Raphael and Ian continue with the trip and ultimately stand on the 7040m unclimbed summit.

The Piolets d'Or report of their climb said:

"K6 West has also been the target of several previous attempts. Canadians Raphael Slawinski and Ian Welsted (Canada), first had to climb through a complex and dangerous icefall to reach an elegant ice/mixed line on the Northwest face, which led in turn to the crest of the upper west ridge. The pair took five days to reach the summit, gaining 2,700m of vertical height above base camp. A further day was needed to descend the route."

The expedition was sponsored by: Arc'teryx and Black Diamond
