The GB Junior Climbing Team had a successful weekend in Imst, Austria where four members achieved top ten positions after qualifying for the final round. The youngest members of the team made a promising debut on the international circuit, with Hamish McArthur and Emily Phillips finishing a highly commendable 5th and 9th place respectively in their first ever Youth B category international event.

Seasoned competitors Molly Thompson-Smith and William Bosi also made finals and took 7th and 10th place in this one-off annual event. Jim Pope and Kitty Morrison narrowly missed out on finals in 13th place.

The team is now working towards the World Youth Championships, which will take place in China in November. In addition, older team members Molly, William and Jim will be looking to compete in some senior international events this year.

Team manager Ian Dunn commented:

"We had a great competition at the Imst EYC - unfortunately the only lead EYC in 2016. We took a strong team but included a few new faces too, the youngsters both in their first year of Youth B (14 to 15 year olds) Emily Phillips and Hamish McArthur both made the finals. They were joined by experienced competitors Molly Thompson-Smith and William Bosi. If we had had a wee bit more luck Kitty Morrison and Jim Pope - both 13th - would have also been off to isolation too. Star of the show Hamish finished 5th in his first European Cup. With plenty to learn both Emily and Hamish are talents to watch. Overall we returned home a very happy team, one that is a pleasure to take to internationals as they are well behaved and do their parents and country proud."
