In the men's, Galen Reynolds started in a more privilaged position, 44 minutes ahead of Jim Mann, having extended his lead during Day 4. In the end, after 5 gruelling days, 315 kilometres and 15,500m height gain, Galen Reynolds maintained his lead, finishing in first place with an overall time of 37:38:06. The women's race had a more dramatic ending, as it was clear that the event had taken its toll on Sabrina Verjee, who slowed dramatically, leaving Lisa Watson to come home with a convincing victory, finishing with an overall time of 44:33:23.
