Chaehyun Seo has onsighted L'Antagonista 8c, at Montsant, Spain. In doing so, she becomes the second woman to have onsighted the grade, after Janja Garnbret.

Seo's onsight comes just three days after having become the ninth woman to climb 9a+, when she made the second female ascent of La Rambla (9a+), in Siurana.

Seo spent almost an hour on the 60 metre route, twenty minutes of which she spent at the crux, just five metres below the chains.

The ascent is made even more impressive due to Seo having onsighted an 8b route, Hidrofóbia L2 (8b), earlier in the day.

Whilst Garnbret was the first woman to onsight a consensus 8c in 2021 (make that two, in just three days), female onsights have been dipping in and out of '8c' for more than a decade. In 2010, Charlotte Durif climbed Le roi du pétrole, which was subsequently downgraded to 8b+, whilst Kajsa Rosen climbed T-1 Full Equip (8b+) in 2016, which, again, received a downgrade shortly after her ascent.

With Seo having finished second in this years Climbing World Cup, climbed a 9a+ on her seventh attempt, and onsighted 8c, the 19 year old has already cemented her place at the top of women's climbing, both in competition and outdoors.
