Trad Climbing In Australia - Mother Earth (5.13d/8b/31)Fri Night Vid

© Ben Sanford

In this week's Friday Night Video, we follow Jacques Beaudoin as he seeks to make the first ascent of an 8b finger crack, Mother Earth, in Newnes Plateau, Australia.

Having put in seventy-six attempts to get the first pink-point ascent, Jacques turned up with a solid plan for turning that pink-point into a red-point, only to quickly realise that he was, in his own words, 'not ready for it'.

As Jacques continues to put the work in on this line, the film not only showcases the complexity and beauty of the route, but highlights Jacques' personal battle to overcome his fear of taking huge falls on tiny cams, as well as drawing attention to the impact of mining, logging, and bushfires within the region.
