Ned Feehally has returned home from a three-week trip to Rocklands, South Africa with a particularly impressive ticklist of problems up to 8B. At the top of the list were eight problems graded 8B and sixteen at 8A/8A+. In one especially productive day, he managed three 8Bs and two 8As.
Ned told UKC:
"It was my first time in Rocklands so I tried to spend my time getting around, seeing as much as possible and trying to climb as much as I could rather than getting stuck into hard projects. I felt like I climbed a fair bit, but there is still loads to go back for - it's a really extensive area and I feel like I only just scratched the surface this time."
Ned had trained fairly hard for the trip and was happy to feel on form. He came tantalisingly close to flashing El Corazon 8B, falling off the very last move, as well as completing Monkey Business 8B and Power of One 8B on his 3rd and 2nd go respectively. Commenting on his ticking spree of three 8Bs and two 8As in a day, Ned told us:
"I've had a daft goal for a while which was to do five problems 8A and above in a day. I have come close a few times but finally I managed it one day early in the trip which was satisfying."
Regarding the quality of the climbing in Rocklands, Ned added:
"I really enjoyed getting to climb on so much good rock, in the stunning scenery that the area has to offer. Problems like The Hatchling, El Corazon and Black Shadow are some of the best boulder problems I've seen anywhere."
