Design Assistant, DMM, Llanberis Jobs

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to advance their career in engineering and design. We are looking for a highly motivated and energetic design assistant to join and support our passionate team of design engineers in Llanberis. You will be a team player within a small but busy department and will report to the design manager. It is essential that you are self-motivated with a positive and proactive approach, with the ability to work under pressure and solve problems independently.

The Role

To assist the design team with the development of new products and the upkeep of the existing DMM range, with a focus on manufacturing engineering, to ensure their successful integration into production.

Tasks include:

  • Perform and analyse metal forging simulations
  • Design jigs used for testing, prototyping and production
  • Produce and update manufacturing drawings for new and existing products
  • Design, prove and implement new production processes
  • Solve issues with production and implement solutions
  • Research and present findings of market research and manufacturing solutions
  • Research and prepare patents
  • Read, understand and carry out testing to BS/ISO standards
  • Conduct a wide range of bespoke laboratory testing
  • Field test concepts and prototypes
  • Write detailed test reports, proofread technical literature and work to the product design process as part of our quality assurance procedure
  • Operate the 3D Printers
  • Any other duties required

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in engineering or industrial design, or a strong background in this field
  • A year's relevant industry experience
  • Skilled in CAD modelling and the use of IT
  • Creative individual to work on their own without guidance, or as part of a small team
  • Good attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • An active interest in climbing/mountaineering and/or tree care/work at height

Desirable Attributes

  • Software skills – Solidworks and Microsoft Office
  • An understanding of FEA, 3D printing and of our primary production processes, which include: hot forging of aluminium and steel, CNC machining, injection moulding, material heat treatment and anodising

Training and Development

On the job training covering company products, procedures, correct use of machinery, and Health & Safety.

Hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
