International stars of the bouldering scene will gather together for the high profile adidas ROCKSTARS event on the 14th of September in Stuttgart (GER).
One year before the Olympics in Tokyo, where bouldering is one of three parts in the newly created combined competition (with lead and speed being the other two), the international bouldering elite comes together in Stuttgart to claim the ROCKSTARS title in its ninth edition. Last year, Jernej Kruder (SLO) was crowned as "adidas ROCKSTAR" in a thrilling 1 vs. 1 in 2018 against South Korean Jongwon Chon. The South Korean will be returning as Kruder to hit the buzzer first this time and finally win the title. Japanese stars Yoshiyuki Ogata, Kokoro Fujiand Candian Sean McColl are the ones for Chon and Kruder to keep an eye on. In the women's, Miho Nonaka claimed the adidas ROCKSTAR title last year and this year many talented female athletes like Jessica Pilz (AUT), world champion Petra Klingler (SUI) and Julia Chanourdie (FRA) are waiting to compete in 2019's edition of the super final.
In summer 2016, the International Olympic Comitee (IOC) decided to make sports climbing a part of the Olympic program, so the sports will be included in the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. The competition mode is a newly created format, called 'Olympic Combined', consisting of three disciplines: lead, speed and bouldering.
