Elevate & WBL Competition Round-Up Press Release

The 2016-17 winter competition season saw some exciting changes in format at the Manchester, Harrogate, Reading & Huddersfield Climbing centres. The Winter Bouldering League (WBL) and roped climbing competitions took on new personas. In particular, the brand new Elevate concept, taking a progressive approach through a mix of top-rope and lead climbing, making it a competition for all.

The aim for both competitions was to reflect the community of climbers using each of the different climbing centres involved and to create events that provided the opportunity to meet and climb with new people, in a friendly competition environment.

This season saw a variety of categories, prize structures and events, including the first Reading Climbing Festival, playing host to the finals of both competitions at Reading Climbing Centre, as well as a host of lectures, film shows and other activities. Live music and appearances from ambassadors for the event sponsors DMM and La Sportiva also featured at some of the events, adding to the atmosphere, and to provide some great encouragement for competitors! Feedback on the events would be welcome in the forum, to make next year’s events even better for you all.

The final results from each competition can be found on each centre’s website. We’d like to thank everyone who took part this year, and hope that you are as psyched for the next season as we are! In the meantime, keep an eye on your local centre’s website content hub and social media for more events, competitions and goings on!
