Taken from near the top of Colca canyon in Peru. I would like to say this was an extremely demanding shot to capture but the birds make it quite easy. As the sun rises it creates thermals which rise up the side of the canyon, the condors use these to rise from their roosts inside the canyon and up into the outside world. Stand there long enough and they swoop past multiple times as they gain height. I did have the canon zoom extension on the camera (a older compact) which meant I had to track the birds, so the background is a bit blurred. As it is I've had to crop and sharpen to get this image.
