Fantastic photo, did you edit it and if so what did you do to get it like that.
5 for me!!!!

Cheers! the unusual 'staged' look is just the interaction between the remote flash and the low sun, no photoshop trickery.
jim.macp - 28/Apr/09
Stunning! 5 just ain't enough!
feepole - 28/Apr/09
What a magnificent photo. Well done.
DougG - 28/Apr/09
looks like you're using the pillows from your moms settee..?
supafly - 28/Apr/09
$2 in a charity shop, the cheapest bouldering mat going..
jim.macp - 29/Apr/09
Love it!
Jamie Hageman - 29/Apr/09
And another 5 from me - beautiful and avoids those bouldering shot cliches - photo of the week?
David Hooper - 30/Apr/09
Sorry, but the mats spoil what should be a crackin' photo!
Sean Kelly - 01/May/09
Amazing colours, and i love the shadow cast by the climber!
vincentvega - 03/May/09
Have to agree with Sean on this one ! Still a brill photo though.....
mr mills - 03/May/09
Thats a bit special that, good effort!
antpayne2003 - 06/May/09
Sorry but I really don't like it. Looks very artificial.
220bpm - 08/May/09
Like it. The unusual lighting really catches your eye and makes you look losely. I'd suggest shielding the flash from the camera next time if you do another shot like this, and your filter has crept in and caused some vignetting, but otherwise brill.

Great photo. And some interesting questions. Does the bouldering mat add or detract? It adds interest, shgowing the contrast between beauty and our climbing culture. Does the remote flash add? Without it, it would not be a great photo.

But did he get the problem, It does my head in, i've been a few inches higher than that about 50 times..... never done it tho.
Laffco - 10/May/09
What do you use to trigger your flash??? Pocket Wizards?
ccrichie - 12/May/09
looks like a Salvador Dali painting. Just needs some melting clocks
tony92 - 13/May/09
where is this???
i want a go at that problem
BlakeyDerbyshire - 13/May/09
thanks for the comments. ccrichie; flash triggered with a D70's built in IR commander. personally i have no problem with the aesthetic of bouldering mats in my photos, i always use one when i'm bouldering so a shot without looks somewhat staged to me

Amazing photo!! is this NZ- Castle hill? I was there with my now ex girlfriend.... she p#ssed and moaned because she was cold and couldn't be naffed going back to the van to get a jumper.....im not bitter...honest
tommakin - 15/May/09
Sweet shot, yea bouldering mats aren't cheap in NZ same with all climbing gear :(
Was up at Castle Hill working on a comercial shoot a few days ago, didn't get a chance to climb sadly but the views were stunning with the fresh snow!
Can I ask what lens and hood you used?
Matt

Matt; sorry you didn't get a chance to climb. no lens hood on a tokina 12-24mm f4
jim.macp - 17/May/09
Great photo. One for the end of the day as cool conditions are v important. For V6 its such a difficult problem (i've not done it by the way but its not from lack of trying!)...

This needs to be cropped to get rid of those corners.
Pretty basic...
