There's a big hidden flake crack directly above the climber that swallows gear and allows a positive layback, albeit on initially smeary footholds. If you are unable to span across to the big foothold on the arete it will probably feel like HVS, if you can it is still high in the grade VS.

Great route. Even if the bottom of the crag is a bit like the lost world..

Great to see a good photo of this crag. A hidden gem!
Africa flake (as it used to be known as)is a pretty wild VS and there are some excellent E1/2 grade routes on gabbro like rock. Well worth a visit.

Approach it as an HVS as it says in the guidebook rather than this badly moderated UKC site VS. Trust me. Climbed it on Saturday. Superb.
