Not sure whose idea this was except that it definitely wasn't Brian's but he didn't have the car keys. As I recall, we beat a hasty retreat to get some breakfast.

God, this brings me back. No insulation twixt you and the ground, shit pit, piece of ripped plastic, feet shoved into yer sac. Happy days... and restless nights!

We HAD been in the pub - sometimes one isn't quite as well prepared as one might be after a few beers.... !
That newfangled closed cell foam (Karrimat) was available at the time. Brian's reluctance may have been partly explained by that pathetic excuse for insulation he has with him. I'm fairly sure I always had a bit of foam in the back of my sack. Nonetheless, it was unpleasantly cold.

Good grief! I had to put mine out of its misery in the mid 70s - I still have its replacement but my original Icelandic had taken on a life of its own. I'll confess I wasn't kind to it. I see they still sell something similar - a tryfan classic 2-3 season bag for 20 quid. Wow.

Icelandic! That's the one. Oh happy days....

The days were happy because the nights were so miserable in an Icelandic.... :)
