I didn't realise that he had let go of the rope at the time, until I seen this picture, he's a good mate and was only using a Petzl Reverso 1, I think he was that pleased for me to pass the crux he forgot his duty. sorry John if you see this, it does make me laugh every time I see it.;)

We split it into two pitches, saved on rope drag?!, but would rather do it in one pitch.

With doubles you are fine doing it in one pitch, just clip all runners up to your belayer on one rope, then extend the first ones off the ledge and then start using the other rope again.
