Have just found another pic of our ascent of the Ginat, a year before the 1st ascent!
Note the Snowdon Mouldings Curver axe, Helly Hanson "furry" pants & incredibly heavy Hivernale double boots. Matey ran it out without any pro to the belay. This is the 1st pitch off the top of the icefield, which we,d soloed. We followed steep ice runnels, until surprisingly , we met a couloir [invisible from below],which came down from the breche. Because it had stormed for the previous few days it was full of unconsolidated snow & v. scary. We bivvied on the summit.

So was this the FA of the Burke Lloyd route, Phil?

As far as I know it was the first ascent of this line, which is undoubtedly the Ginat. I was shocked at how hard some of the climbing was bearing in mind the equipment and standard of the day. Same sort of grade as traditional Scottish V,s, It went on and on with poor gear and massive exposure. We didn,t claim it at the time, because obviously it wasn,t the Corneau Davaille and we didn,t finish on the summit. We thought maybe we had completed a somewhat inferior kop out line!!
