PS. Apologies for the cynical tone, but as artistic as your shots are, I'm getting bored of the whole flowing water thing, seems everyones at it lately. To your credit yours are at the better end of the spectrum.

Nicely lit and exposed. Personally I think I would crop some of he blue sky to create a more balanced image which would focus my eye more on the main subject. As for @ Calder, there is some good technique on display in this image. If you are bored of "flowing water" shots then don't look at or comment on them!

In reply to Calder, I agrees that a lot of the photo mags push this photographic style, much like using ND grads when you could bracket the exposure. Now this foreground, with climbing action behind, would be a really great image, or perhaps a figure/animal appearing in that misty light....?

Personally I don't quite understand all the negativity towards long exposures.... I mean they have been about for decades, longer even, if fact the very 1st exposure ever taken was a long exposure. I personally don't take these kind of photographs because its the 'in' thing to do. They happen as matter of working in very low light.... this shot I had to compose and focus using s torch! The misty water effect is a consequence of wanting to use a smaller aperture for a greater depth of field, and using a low ISO, to maintain quality . I suppose I could have cranked the ISO up, opened the aperture to f2.8.... But I know which image I would prefer seeing. As for grads.... Yeh they are the way to go. Yeh, you can bracket and blend ( and sometimes I do) But my aim is always endeavour to get it as I want it in Camera, and use Ps for the final polish... so much easier, and ultimately more satisfying that exposure blending ( even if you do by hand in Ps, as opposed to those horrible exposure blending programs). Not sure I agree ) or quite understand) your comment of having to have a climber in the picture Sean - why can't it be a good picture for what it is ? Come on folks... lighten up. Open up your minds, and have a little respect for all genre of photography , that has been done well. James, thanks for your constructive feedback... Rather than crop, I'm going to go back and re work the sky. But yeh, now that you have mentioned it your eye does make its way to the bright sky to quickly. I love this. The composition and colour really work for me. Now that I'm up in Sheffield (I'm Devonian) I really miss being near the sea. Anyway, keep them coming. On a climbing website there will always be plenty who don't see the point, but personally I'd much rather see this than mediocre pictures of people on the grit.
