Yes well, there were no climbing walls so we got out in what my diary says was "unbelievably you conditions" and climbed A1 No one did that free in those days.

Brilliant,brings back memories of wet days when we were desperate to go climbing so we would spend hours dangling off Ten-Drill and Roozleboom at Sea Walls,Avon.

Yes, bad weather alternatives. I well remember soloing London Wall on 2nd March in that long hard winter of 1962. I just like to think I did my bit to make it a
great ' Free' climb.
