After a bit of research, we have found that Ioan did not do the Sean Miles version E8 7a 8a+/b instead he climbed the r/h finish which goes at E7 6c F7c/+. Dave Rudkin made a second ascent of this route also and confirmed the grade. As to your question, the route is super safe crux near the top protected by a good peg and a back up wire...
