Interesting that you're carrying your gear on your waist. We carried huge tangles of slings and stuff around our necks well into the 70s.

Hi Jon,
Well spotted! I hated tying directly onto the rope, and I also didn't like carrying gear on a sling over my head...my dad took an interest in what I was doing and suggested a wide belt [probably learnt in his army days]. He had a friendly cobbler make me one with gear loops, in fact I used it until the Whillans harness came out in the 1970's. Actually, the Troll Webbing Belt appeared sometime after my belt...I still wonder if someone had spotted my dads idea and copied it!
