No, we didn't get up it...
LongTime Ago - 21/Feb/16
Al Rouse & myself got up the first 2 pitches, in I think it was 1986, but because of a typical late start it got dark & we bailed out. Immediately after that there was "the great storm" & we never went back that year; the year Al died on K2

Wasn't the day after the ACG night at the Kingshouse was it? Think we started at a reasonably early hour but hangovers got the better of us so we also bailed and went round to Crowberry Left Hand instead.

No it wasn,t. We got stuck by snow at Ballachulish for 4 days & stayed with Paul Moores. The first night of the storm we joined the rescue team & went up Glencoe to the ski area, to rescue a bus full of stranded skiers. We had to have a plough at the front and back of the small convoy, the snow was that heavy. It was the time several special forces succumbed in the Cairngorms due to atrocious weather

I'd disappeared up to Svalbard before that storm hit so was blissfully unaware of it till the summer.

Sharing these older historic photos with a wider audience is really important. I note the curved picks and the wearing of the rucksack whilst on the lead. I give you total respect and admiration.

Great to see this mate, aye yet another hangover tho' no as bad as the one on the day of the shadow; you havent still got the photos of that ?. I seem to remember Crowberry LH wisnae too bad either

Have heard a rumour that the youth of today don't see a hangover as part of the adventure! Remember CLH being brilliant and still not met anybody else that's done it - they must be out there somewhere, surely.

Good to see the Koflachs as the trendy boot of the day. Mine always seemed to need glueing at the black leaf next to the tongue.
Yes the talk is how to keep the weight down in the rucksack by not taking too much water, but when the hangover leaves you with a tongue that is virtually dried to the roof of your mouth when you set out, then you need to drink all morning just to catch up with the night before.
