Ahead of the game! Must be one of the first illustrations of a kernmantel rope in a book on climbing - my early ones were all of the 'Viking' hawser-laid variety.

Is he giving it, 'Jeez, where the hell am I?' (Know this feeling so well!) Looks a bit like the old Mournes OS map but surely can't be? As a beginner, I remember reading an earlier Tony Greenbank instructional book which was very good. His enthusiasm seemed to come across in all that he did. A man who gave so much to us.

Looks like he's trying to get to his first E1?
