Which route did you climb?

We planned to do the French route, but the cornice was too scary. It does not really show on the photo.
We did Cuitaraju instead, via the ridge. D/Ad I thin.k

Lots of distracting crap in the foreground has made a good photo average.

I don't know if you know John and are just being humorous and calling him 'distracting crap' But if you're being serious then I have to disagree! This is a superb photo and IMO the the person and tent etc just adds to the photo. Without it, it would just be another good mountain shot. Whereas I find this photo has character. Stunning mountain btw, gobsmakkingly beautiful, something I dream of to see in person (lucky git, lol!)

I agree. The foreground is what makes this photo good. I've seen hundreds of same old alpamayo shots... this puts it all into perspective!

Thanks for your complimentary comments regarding the photo. The climber in the foreground is a chap called John who hails from the east coast of the US. Alpamayo is an awesome mountain and we got there early season before the guided hordes arrived.

Is it possible to lie down in your tent John, it does look rather small?

Yep, just. It was at this point that I noted john has painted toe nails, something my female companions had noted in the cafe 3 days earlier but had neglected to tell me. Apparently, it is an East Coast US climber thing, so I assume Mick painted his..

I took this on a four pence h'penny camera. Time to get the cd out and sort it out on Photoshop. That said, I like the "patina" and want to avid making it look like something from a PS3
