I placed this 2ft long 1" dia mild steel stake in 1974. It took me about ½hr to remove it with the hammer and 24" Stillsons shown in June 2008. The pen shows ground level. Still plenty of metal left after 34 years.

Didn't there used to be something strange on the ab down into Guilemmott? and whats the history of that tap on, is it, Battleship?
