CAMP FOUR: Five Gift Ideas for Climbers

Gift Splash

The decision to open Campfour came about on a climbing trip to North America. After returning from the trip and a few months of blood, sweat and tears, we opened Campfour's doors in January 2004.

We stock technical climbing and mountaineering equipment as well as walking and camping gear. Because we are independent, we can call on our own experience as mountaineers, climbers and walkers when deciding what to stock – we aren't dictated to by a 'head office'.

Priding ourselves on service in the shop we spend time with our customers, offering friendly, useful information and advice gained from personal experience. We want, as much as possible, to make that level of service and experience available on the web. Hopefully you see this when you browse the site.

Ever since the day it opened the shop has been great fun. It quickly became a busy meeting place for local, like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, whether climbers or walkers. Off the back of this has come 'The Chapel' bouldering wall and Thursday night climbers.

Our five gift ideas are below.

Lucy and David, and the crew.

1. Arc'Teryx C80 Chalk Bag - £16.20 (srp £18).

Made with Schoeller® softshell fabric, these chalkbags are supple, tough and feature an external zipper pocket. The slightly stiffened 'mouth' means you get to the chalk every time you go for it.  The entire chalk bag is the sort of quality you expect from Arc'Teryx.

Available in a variety of colours: Gold, Miro Blue, Red Beryl, Fuchsia, Blackbird.

A great Christmas treat for under £20!

2. Petzl e+Lite Headtorch - £22.50 (srp £25).

An awesome emergency headlamp. Compact and ultra-light (27g) you can always carry it with you. Don't think this means it won't deliver on shines up to 19m and can do so for up to 4 nights on a row (approx. 45 hrs). It can also cope with extreme temperatures (-30 °C to +60°C) and is waterproof to -1m!

This deserves a corner in anyone's pack.

3. Sealskinz Winter Glove - £22.50 (srp £25).

Designed for colder conditions, this waterproof and windproof glove uses the highly breathable Porelle® membrane to ensure minimum internal moisture build up, maximum thermal protection and comfort.

A superb addition to the kit list of anyone heading outdoors this winter.

4. Arc'Teryx Outline Logo T - £17.99 (srp £20).

  t shirt

Available for men and women with slight differences in design.  Both are classic in their simplicity.  The Women's T features an outlined Word logo across the chest and a Bird Word logo in the center of the lumbar region. The Men's T has an outlined Bird Word logo on the back and a Bird logo on the left chest.  There are different colour options for both Men and Women.

  A really nice t-shirt at under £18.00.

5. Metolius Rope Master - £25.20 (srp £28).

These bags are everywhere and no wonder! The way to go for storing your rope, keeping out the dirt & UV rays, and booting up and stretching. It features a 4' x 5' tarp to keep your rope and other gear out of the dirt; unbreakable aluminium buckles; a padded, over-the shoulder carry strap; and dual compression straps.  At 20L capacity, it's a great size no matter whether you're climbing indoors or out.

This would be a great gift for anyone with a rope to look after.
