UKC and Plas y Brenin - The Big Climb

Last year we ran the very successful Alpine Festival in collaboration with Plas y Brenin in North Wales. This year we are once again teaming up with PyB to provide a weekend of workshops, lectures and events called

The Big Climb

on the 14th and 15th of May 2011.

The aim of The Big Climb weekend will be for people to learn from the experts in a series of workshops covering a wide range of different climbing skills: from bouldering to sport climbing; from training to first aid: from racking your gear to tackling your first big wall.

The Workshops on Offer

  • Bouldering – Small problems - massive gains?
    Using bouldering as a training tool.
  • Sea Cliff Skills
    The low down on getting the most out of sea cliff climbing while staying safe.
  • Training Smarter
    Learn how to get more from your training while staying motivated.
  • Effective Video Analysis
    Learn how to use video analysis to improve your technique.
  • Get Out of Jail Free
    Self-rescue techniques.
  • Racking Up
    What gear to carry and how to rack it.
  • Big Wall Climbing
    An introduction to big walls and how to climb them.
  • Big Mountain Routes, Climbing Slicker
    Climbing faster and more efficiently on multi-pitch routes.
  • Alpine Rockaneering
    Accessible rock climbing in the Alps.
  • Real World First Aid
    First aid for real situations you may find yourself in, without the right kit.
  • Sport Climbing
    An introduction for trad climbers wanting to try their hand at some sport climbing.
  • Belays and Anchors
    Building effective belays and anchors.
  • Destruction Junction
    Witness gear manufacturers testing their gear to destruction.

Each of the workshops will be presented by an expert in the field and this will be a unique opportunity for you to learn directly from top climbers in their fields. They will share their knowledge with you in the workshops but also be on-hand throughout the weekend for informal chat sessions around the centre or at the bar.

The program lasts for the whole weekend and you can choose which workshops you would like to attend to in effect create your own program.
There will also be an Expert's Corner, where you will be able to ask questions direct to the experts.

The price for the weekend is just £160 which includes two nights accommodation and all your food, in addition to the world class coaching and tuition and guest speakers on Friday and Saturday night.

The Goody Bag

Everyone who comes on the course will get a free goody bag packed with some great bits of kit. The exact contents have not been finalised but there will be plenty to get excited about.

Do you think it might be a good ia to put the date of the course in the article somewhere instead of just in the photo? For those who may have missed it, it's May 14 and 15!
