CAC Raise £100,000 for Cancer Charities Worldwide throughout 2018 Press Release

© CAC

First of all we want to say a huge thank you for your continued support of Climbers Against Cancer. When John started raising funds for cancer research he never could have imagined the way the climbing community would embrace the charity. We continue to be the chosen charity for the climbing world. This is reflected in the continuing support we receive from them and from yourselves.

We wanted to bring you up too date with how 2018 went for CAC and what we have planned for 2019.

Below is the list of the donations that we made in 2018:

  1. £25k to the Swiss Cancer research foundation made at the UIAA event in Saas Fee in January
  2. £25k to the Tyrollean cancer research institute made at the IFSC world cup in Innsbruck during September
  3. £25k to the Australian cancer council made at the National bouldering championships in Belmont western Australia in October
  4. £25k to The Christie research centre made at the Kendal Mountain festival and the cheque was presented by Edward Mills in November

£100,000 in total.

We had the amazing 8 year old Edward Mills who climbed the Old Man of Hoy to raise funds for us. He wanted to raise money for CAC as he is a climber and his Mother had terminal cancer.

He completed his climb in June along with his coaches Ben West and Cailean Harker. His mother, Bekki, was on the ferry and saw him top out, sadly she lost her battle to cancer in August. As at today the total raised by Edward and donations at his mothers funeral stands at £41,032.24. This is the largest single fundraiser we have had to date. Edward went on to win the Pride of Britain young fundraiser of the year award in October.

We asked Edward to hand over the cheque to The Christie, at the Kendal Mountain festival in honour of his achievements

We have some new people who are working tirelessly for us , Andy and Georgina from Derby and Robb Haze from Nottingham are avid supporters of any thing outdoors, they have been to many events with a CAC stand and have many more planned, David in Portsmouth who came up with the idea for the Mountain March fundraiser ( detailed below) and helped design the artwork, David also attends events to sell CAC merchandise and to raise awareness in his area ( Dorset) . Remi in France who has done a massive amount and is very keen to do more. And many more. All these people work on a purely voluntary basis and put as many hours as they can in too raise, not only funds but also awareness for the charity.

As for 2019...

We are holding the Mountain March event at the end of this month and are hoping to get as many people involved as we can.

We already have a lot of walls and teams within the UK who are taking part and also the Climb up group in France have pledged to donate 1€ for everyone who walks through the doors for the whole weekend at all of their walls ( they have 13 climbing walls through France) Remi and Sheila McCarron will be attending some of the walls to sell stock .

Also 1 of our supporters in Singapore and Caitlin Horan (the Australian ambassador and organiser of the October donation) are both taking part. So it can really be called an international event.

We are hoping that it will become an annual event.
