In-house Routesetter at IndiRock

Position: In-house Routesetter
Location: IndiRock, The Victoria Centre, Southend-on-Sea
Hours: Part time

Wage: Dependent on experience

Role outline:

You will be working alongside our Head Setter and Operations Manager to make sure IndiRock provides a high quality range of problems across all grades.

You will work at IndiRock at least one day every week to create a variety of challenging, interesting boulders for all grades, as well as stripping walls and cleaning holds.

Who are we looking for?

Applicants should have a positive attitude, be quick problem solvers, be open to feedback and must work well with others. Providing constructive feedback and being responsive to customers is desirable. Successful candidates will be interested in long term development and will be knowledgeable of IndiRock's circuits and our mission of inclusivity. Familiarity with various setting tools is required.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To create and maintain high quality problems that represent the quality of IndiRock's offer
  • Stripping walls and cleaning holds
  • Storing and maintaining holds, bolts and all route setting supplies and tools at IndiRock
  • Collecting and recording feedback from customers
  • Working as a part of the IndiRock team

Essential criteria:

  • At least 1 year of commercial routesetting experience
  • Able to set and test at V4 level (or above)
  • Available to work flexible hours
  • Customer service focused
  • Clear, effective, confident communicator
  • Committed to developing in the role over a number of years
  • Enthusiastic attitude towards self-improvement

Desirable criteria:

  • Interest and knowledge in the Essex climbing scene
  • First Aid trained
  • Active interest in following local and international climbing competitions
  • Freelance routesetting experience
  • Routesetting qualifications and courses
