ROLE SUMMARY

This is an exciting role, taking responsibility for the safe and profitable operations of The Climbing Academy’s busy dedicated bouldering centre, The Newsroom, in Glasgow. You will be passionate about providing exceptional customer service and have experience managing and leading a team in a fast-paced environment delivering high standards. As Centre Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all day-to-day operations of the facility. You will manage and develop a dynamic group of employees ensuring safety standards are met, maintaining the facility, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive climbing community. You will be an ambassador for the company and provide a high level of service for all our customers and staff. At times you will work on the front desk as part of the customer service team. You will work with the Regional Operations Manager to ensure consistency and efficiency across the business.

Pay: £32,000 to £37,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Bonus: up to 5% (dependent on the performance)
Moving: Relocation expenses considered up to £2,000
Hours: Full-time (150 hours per 4 week rota) evenings and weekend working will be required along with general flexibility with working hours
Training: We will encourage and facilitate your development as a manager through off the job training and development
Holiday: 28 days per year

Reports to: Regional Operations Manager

ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

Finance

  • Monitor and manage the full climbing centre's budget, expenses, and revenue. This will include collating the monthly payroll for the centre.
  • Closely manage the staffing and training budgets supporting the Regional Operations Managers with longer term planning.
  • Work closely with the Instructing team to develop and deliver safe and profitable instructed/coached sessions within the centre.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to increase revenue and profitability of the site.

Health and Safety

  • Implement and enforce TCA H&S procedures and policies throughout the centre at all times. This will include regular checks, record keeping and staff training.
  • Respond effectively to accidents or incidents, including first aid and incident reporting.
  • Work with the Setting and Maintenance team to ensure routine inspections and checks are up to date and issues are resolved promptly. 
  • Work closely with the Operations Director to develop, implement and review operational policies and procedures.

Staffing

  • Recruit, onboard, train and supervise a team able to operate the centre safely and profitably day to day.
  • Issue contracts and set performance expectations providing regular feedback to ensure high standards are met and maintained.
  • Create and manage the staffing rota, including holiday requests, sickness cover and qualification requirements within safety and budget requirements.
  • Line Manage staff providing clear and direct leadership, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. You will be rota’d on to the front desk team.

Customer Service

  • Ensure exceptional customer experiences by maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere from well trained staff.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. This includes running regular events at the centre that keep developing a community of climbers.
  • Work with the Marketing Team to retain regular customers and continually attract new customers to the site. 

Facilities

  • Successfully manage the day-to-day operations of the in centre cafe and shop. This includes cleanliness, stock taking, staff training and customer service.
  • Oversee and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the centre throughout the building is to the highest standard.
  • Ensure site security at all times.
  • Ensure the centre has legal and regulatory documents up to date, filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.
  • The post holder is expected to undertake any other reasonable duties within their capabilities and the scope of the post as specified by the Regional Operations Manager.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience in a management or supervisory role preferably within the indoor climbing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of bouldering and climbing techniques, safety practices, and equipment.
  • Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Experience in financial management, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing and motivating a team.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to drive business growth.
