Duty Manager


We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Management Team. This is a permanent position, starting in April, which entails shift work totalling 160 hours per 4-week rota. Daytime, evening and weekend shifts are required. Supplementary instructional work may also be available. Ideally, we are looking for someone with a background in fitness and training looking to develop a new sector within the centre.

As Duty Manager you will be responsible for opening and closing the centre and ensuring safe and efficient operation. This will include keeping the centre clean and tidy, upholding all big rock health and safety policies, cashing up and money handling, managing reception staff, taking bookings for instructed sessions, performing regular checks around the centre, dealing with customer comments/suggestions/complaints in the first instance, along with promoting a good atmosphere throughout the centre in order to satisfy all our customers.

You will also be expected to run instructed climbing sessions on an ad hoc basis.

Performance will be measured by: customer feedback; health and safety of customers, visitors and staff; effectiveness and efficiency of reception; and cleanliness and general appearance of the centre.

Pay will be related to experience, performance reviews and responsibilities undertaken.

Experience and Qualifications

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated team leader who will ideally, but not essentially, have the following:
•An understanding of working in a café and a busy climbing environment.
•Experience of working with database and EPOS systems, or ability to learn how to work with and manage them.
•Climbing Wall Award or Single Pitch Award.
•A minimum of First Aid at work.
•Experience of fitness and training would be preferable.

Receptionist


We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Reception Team. This is a permanent position, starting in April 2013, working from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday. Supplementary evening and weekend work may also be available. As front of house receptionist, responsibilities will include:

•To ensure all telephone calls are handled in a timely, professional and friendly manner.
•Respond to queries and direct as appropriate by email, telephone and direct.
•To ensure centre users are welcomed in a polite and professional manner.
•Maintain appearance of reception area and ensuring the centre is clean and tidy.
•Take bookings for groups, corporate, birthday parties, and other instructed sessions ensuring entry into the diary.
•Receive deliveries of goods and ensure stock is placed in correct locations.
•Manage other reception staff as necessary.
•Deal with customer comments/suggestions/complaints in the first instance, along with promoting a good atmosphere throughout the centre in order to satisfy all our customers.

Performance will be measured by: customer feedback; health and safety of customers, visitors and staff; effectiveness and efficiency of reception; and cleanliness and general appearance of the centre.

Experience and Qualifications

The successful applicant will be self-motivated member of the team who will ideally, but not essentially, have the following:
•An understanding of working in a café and a busy climbing environment.
•Experience of working with databases and EPOS systems, or ability to learn how to work with and manage them.
•Possess confident skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, email and Internet skills.
•Knowledge of graphic software would be an advantage but not essential.
•Climbing Wall Award or Single Pitch Award.
•A minimum of First Aid at work.

I'm not interested in this myself, but I always wonder why jobs such as these cannot, at least state, a minimum salary. Performance reviews and additional repsonsibilities undertaken should simply enhance the minimum offered at the out-set.
