Apparently there's been another attempt on Trumps life

Your thread title is the exact phrase uttered by a friend's daughter (non-white Florida resident) upon hearing about the first attempt.

Do you mean a third attempt, or are you catching up with Sunday's events on a Trump golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida?

Unlike Melania and most of the GOP politicians (by all accounts), I don’t want to see Trump assassinated, I want to see him found guilty of his crimes by a jury of his peers and to rot in prison until he dies.

Indeed. The idea of a far right power vacuum and response to that would be arguably a greater threat to the stability of western society and hence the world. I think the last thing any right minded person should want is the assassination of a political candidate in a fragile democracy..

Agreed, before that I want the GOP to finally realise the error of their ways and boot him out, accept defeat this time around, regroup, then become a sensible right-wing party.*

*One can dream, as I was hoping the Tories would, yet Jenrick and Badenock are the front runners.

Assassination seems the more likely though.

Before that I want US voters to realise that Trump is a dangerous, self serving charlatan and an absolute danger to western democracy, that racism, rape and withholding classified documents are wrong and that climate scientists know more about climate than oil company executives. But as Dave said, an assassination is more likely, as is an invasion of benevolent Martians with powers over the weather come to save us.

Quite.

Its a case of what is the least worse option.

Assassination turns him in to a martyr and might trigger social uprising.

Imprisoned he becomes a focal point for the dissolutioned who think his arrest is down to the corrupt Democrat party. This could also end in civil unrest.

Maybe he just needs hurting enough to make him give up. However, given his fist pumping after the rally shooting I don't know if he would - I suspect he'd like to go out with a bang. I also suspect hurting someone close to him wouldn't make him think of stopping either.

With my tin foil hat firmly strapped on, I wonder whether this is a false flag attack.

Trump got a huge ratings boost from the lady attempt and his ratings fell significantly following the TV debate.

A planted rifle and paid stooge would pick things up nicely.

Birds aren't real by the way.

What would hurt him most would be an absolute thrashing in the election - followed by every one of his trials being completed, found guilty, fined (lots) and having a short spell in the big house.

I live in hope that at least he loses the election.

Ending his life in jail, in disgrace, would be better than a short spell, though if the two coincide that's fine by me.

Whether shot, defeated narrowly at the election, dead of a heart attack or imprisoned, the result will be the same: lots of the square-beard Maga crowd loading their guns and screaming conspiracy. All of those scenarios and the risks they carry are vastly preferable to the alternative.

The gunman has a long history of being a whack job grifter.  He’s not the sort of person I’d think one could handle in a rational way for staging this sort of thing.

I think if anyone managed to assassinate Trump it would cause riots in the USA and he'd probably go down as some kind of martyr given the number of folk who worship him.   He's a hero to a huge proportion of the population.

Or is that just a carefully crafted backstory...?

Are you sure you mean the gunman?

What about willing pancreatic or oesophageal cancer on him? Or even laryngeal cancer, so that he'd only be bash the lectern, and not spout lies and rubbish?

I am not sure that I even wish these things on him. All I know is that I don't want him to end up as a martyr, as that will lead to possible civil uprising and worse.

Him winning, or losing by a narrow margin is going to be so difficult. If he gets beaten soundly, then that should have less chance of the gun-toting followers rising up: But what truly are the cnances of that?

If KH gets in with a good majority, and the Trump supporters eventually settle down, will she be a caretaker president for 5 years until there are two new candidates: Or will the democrats feed her some reasonable policies with focus?

Perhaps, but it would be good enough for the rest of us.

After the recent British riots, people have been sent to jail for similar posts inciting violence.

In reply to Dan Arkle:

Mind you, in the case of Trump, I for one would not exactly be unhappy if he was to be visited by the sort of violence and harassment that he has himself been advocating that his fanatical followers should indulge in.
