The Castle: Our story at 20 Video

© Castle Climbing Centre

Opened in October 1995 The Castle has stood the test of time and kept pace with changes in the industry as indoor climbing has increased in popularity.

Many people still remember The Castle when it was just 1 floor of climbing and a small band of climbers keeping it going whilst today, 20 years on, it houses 5 floors of bouldering and roped climbing and has a huge supportive community of climbers, staff, visitors and the local community.

The Castle celebrated last weekend putting on a UV spectacle with a bouldering comp and an exciting, neon filled 3 bloc final won by locals Eugenie Lee and Louis Parkinson. The party turned out to be one of the biggest parties the Castle has ever seen. Steve Taylor (Castle CEO) commented “I've seen some bizarre stuff in there over the years but nothing that could touch that spectacle.  Great that everyone got into it too”.

Now all the fanfare and partying has finished and the staff and customers have recovered, it's time to reflect on 20 years' worth of achievements.

Twenty years of the Castle Climbing Centre is a film by Ben Grubb and tells the story of its beginnings until present day. It includes interviews, archive footage, some dating back to 1855 and stunning aerial footage from high above the Castle.

Ben Grubb is a London based cinematographer and photographer and has worked with The Castle for the last 4 years, shooting many of our events and wall launches.

With this latest video Ben has created a stunning and interesting piece of film documenting the history of this building and the climbing walls that have filled it.

What an interesting and inspiring video. Well done the Castle Team. Such a pity that you are such a bloody long way from where I live :( Now, how about finding another challenge south of the Thames?
