Hi, does anybody remember any climbing taking place in in Reynolds Park or wollton village where the quarrys are which the Beatles where originally named after?

I know in childwal woods there is bits of Bouldering a man tale me one time in the 80s it was home to childwal climbing club and was verry popular. There are a number of climbs in childwal woods and routes in Reynolds Park is it in anybody living memory of these routes being done befor

At the moment the only access for the quarry in Reynolds seems to be for research, i would like to add validity to a request to climb there now with a number of routes of vairyed graids it could be a good crag and find it hard to believe that anything done in there is actually a FA

Has anyone climbed at Reynolds quarry?

No, but I used to sneak up some of the little slabs in the grounds of the Anglican Cathedral. This was in the late 80s when there was no climbing wall until the YMCA one opened

I climbed there in the late 80’s when I lived in Wavertree….not with any clubs though. It was never busy and there was a fair bit of gardening that always needed to be done in parts of it. We used to play around by the tunnel too but the quarry had some interesting lines and for us at the time was decent enough for an evening rather than getting out to Pex. Given the lack of venues in Liverpool I’d imagine it would be a great little spot for some bouldering type of climbing but I’m guessing it’ll be pretty overgrown these days….worth checking out with local clubs to see if there’s any interest. I think the only club I saw there once was StHelens….a decent club back in the day and I hope they’re still operating.

I grew up down the road and played here as a kid all the time! I remember jumping over the wall and sneaking down to explore the tunnel a few times but never twigged to go back for a look when taking up climbing back in the early noughties.

Will go and have a peek when next over visiting the family and see how it looks.

The slabs at the cathedral were a regular for a few of us students late 80s as well as the sandstone wall above (I think from memory) a small graveyard.

Met some interesting folk there inckuding a lad who's part piece was leaping from the top of the slabs. Couple of lads got pissed on while committed on the sandstone, the joys of city climbing!

Sorry about the hijack op

i have been doing some climbing in there lately the Ivey covers much of the wall but a good few lines are still visible, there's a good crack for nuts managed to get most of the way to the top before falling but without a decent top anchor to retrieve nuts i didn't go any higher.

there is good bouldering climbing in there too with real class traverses and high balls from which I've discovered the ground is rather soft .

i would have loved to have seen it back in  the day .

who owns it? probably the council i imagine, i would like to Negotiate permission for climbers in there as it says online access is allowed for research?

There’s a bloke called Malcolm who is often in the Vines on a Saturday….he used to be in the Childwall club. I’ve chatted to him quite a few times and he knew a fair bit about the quarry from back in the day…I’m in town on Saturday so I’ll pop in and ask him more about it if he’s in…
