Willersley

I’ve just arrived at Willersley Willersley Castle Rocks this morning to find a number of brand new ‘climbing not allowed’ signs along the length of the crag. It looks like they mean business now! Does anyone know what’s going on? The tourist path to the top of the crag is also closed, on the flimsiest of health and safety reasons.

Maybe they think that, legally, they can demonstrate having taken all reasonable steps to absolve themselves from any liability in the event of a climbing accident. And if climbers choose to ignore such obvious restrictions and get hurt, well, what more could they have been expected to do?

In reply to Peter Milner:

This could be related to the closure of the clifftop path for restoration works over the next few weeks.  I'll try and speak to someone at the mill complex tomorrow to find out more.

Maybe worth contacting jon fullwood,  regional access officer at bmc as well, he will be able to update RAD

In reply to Peter Milner:

This is being looked into (thanks Marc). Will update when the situation is clearer.

In reply to Peter Milner:

We're in touch with the landowner and hoping to resolve this quickly. While this is ongoing a 7 day temporary restriction has been put in place on the RAD.

Thanks - Has there been any progress with this? I see the notice on the BMC RAD has been removed?

In reply to markpollak:

I'm still trying to arrange a meeting with the owner, but currently drawing a blank by phone and email. I've advised them that the temporary restriction put in place has now expired.

Anyone wishing to climb there should be aware that the 'no climbing' signage is still in place and there is some chance they may be asked to leave. The standard advise for anyone asked to leave while trespassing applies, which is to do so promptly and politely without complaint.
