Ha ha! She was very talented, fantastic voice and a great songwriter

She was absolutely fantastic. I've got loads of her LPs, lots of duplications across different releases.

Her version of Ruby Tuesday knocks spots off the original.

Died last year. I loved her. ❤️

A 19 year old Miley Cyrus did a brilliant version, not sure why she shied away from the French verse. There's another one where she performs it with Melanie, but I think this solo one is better.
Melanie of course had the bigger and more gutsy, earnest vocal (and of course it is HER SONG), but on purely technical terms, Miley kind of "out-sings" her (not that it is a competition!)

One thing to perhaps bear in mind is that the Miley Cyrus version isn't actually live.

The duet one that I didn’t post a link for, seems to be live.

Miley Cyrus did a series of songs called 'The Backyard Sessions'.
One of them was 'Jolene' and was reviewed on YouTube by Wings of Pegasus:

Wings of Pegasus reviews a lot of live music to ascertain how live they actually are...

Thanks, that was an engaging watch and he didn't once criticise her, or the fact that the audio wasn't recorded from the performance that we see.

One thing he doesn't mention, and which has given me pause re: the duet version (I've just watched it and they could quite easily have been miming along to playback, despite the appearance of "spontaneous" banter), is the multiple camera angles from apparently hand held cameras. You'd presumably pick up the sound of camera operators moving...

But I was in any case just posting to share the vocal performances

He's pretty balanced in his reviews and never really goes out of his way to criticise.
His review of Taylor Swift's Eras tour and Dua Lupa at Glastonbury is quite interesting...

I think he reviews stuff on request as opposed to him picking a performance.  Maybe ask him to review it?

isn't there some story of her visiting John Peel one time when he was quite ill in a hospital bed, to cheer him by singing a song, but she sang at full volume, the maximum capacity of her quite powerful and clear voice, at point blank range ?

In reply to Blue Straggler:

I've never heard that story, I defer to your knowledge of Melanie.
