I'm off to see Alien Covenant tonight.
It's had some good reviews. around 7.5/10

Anyone else going or seen it yet ?

Please report back! I would love to watch it if was any good, but would like to avoid another Prometheus (there is another two hours of my life I will not get back!).

Yes, I was most disappointed by Prometheus, it did not work for me at all. Hoping for better from Covenant !

I'm hopeful but not massively so!
Then again I enjoyed the simple honesty(*) of Alien: Resurrection so what do I know eh

The bit that did it for me in Prometheus is when they are racing back to the spaceship on those mobility scooters or whatever, to escape the advancing sandstorm or whatever it was, and Shaw says to whoever is driving the scooter she's on, "Go faster!", as if he wasn't already obviously at full throttle. Known as a "Moonraker moment", I think.



* basically they said "look, audience, it's an Alien film. Here's some characters. Here's a location. The characters have to get from one end of the location to the other end. Some will die. 3, 2, 1, GO!" which is frankly in keeping with the first two films.

Just seen Covenant. Better than Prometheus (which I quite liked) and its even got a brief sequence of specific interest to UKC'ers. Looks great and has loads of back story.

I also think that although daft in places Prometheus is a good sci-fi film , mainly because of the deep subject matter.
Wasn't what I expected but still enjoyable enough.

In complete agreement on that, though we seem to be in the minority. For me it was one of those films that improved on re-watching.

Stick me down as another who liked Prometheus. Having had my expectations lowered considerably by all the bad reviews, I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed all the proper Alien films and would recommend all of them. I can't say that for Alien vs Predator which was a cynical cash cow project (but fun in a cartoon sense). Looking forward to the latest.

Hey spooky .....anyone else getting the Arc'teryx Bora Air Pack blue/grey shoe advert that looks a bit like the aliens head.

I too was at the odeon last night, quite liked the film but saw the trailer for the new blade runner, now that does look good

Either somebody is very brave to do this, or Hollywood's bean counters are picking safe remakes in the hope of turning a coin.

Blade Runner was so iconic, that it moulded how I perceived the 80's and science fiction as a teenager.

Please don't let the remake crush my rose tinted glasses.

I thought it was very good. I really enjoyed the film. It's very dark, quite unnerving and really really lush to watch on the big screen and sound system.
There's still things I want to know about what's been going on in it but it answers enough questions as to not annoy to much.

Definite improvement on Prometheus but it makes Prometheus a necessary part of the story arc .

I'd say 7.5-8 out of 10



If you haven't already watch the prologues on YouTube they aren't repeated in the film and they help set up the plot. Especially "The crossing". It explains how David gets his head back.

I too went to see Covenant last night. After Prometheus, I was pleasantly surprised, and would recommend Covenant to fans of the franchise, if only to count how many visual references to films 1and 2 you can spot.

I think Alien and Aliens were top-notch cinema, Alien 3 was underrated (though clearly not that much, as I haven't re-watched it in well over a decade), Alien Resurrection doesn't exist, and Prometheus was disappointing. Having seen Covenant, I am now keen to rewatch Prometheus through new eyes.

I'm not sure how they'll squeeze a sequel out of that ending though, seems like all the loose ends were tied up...

There is nothing safe about revisiting Blade Runner. The original did not do well in cinemas and benefitted from the rise of the home video player coinciding roughly with its own video release time.
As others have explained to you, this is a sequel. It strikes me as a very bold undertaking. There is a very good director on board.

i think it's 10 years after prometheus and 20 years before alien. 2 more in the making apparantly to fill the gaps up to alien

I was unaware of "gaps" that needed filling. Those gaps weren't there before they announced Prometheus!

Another vote for Covenant, really enjoyed it, some stunning cinematography, great sets, and loads of references to previous Alien films, did what it said on the tin, as they say.

Another vote for the uncomfortable about how the new Blade runner will be, that film was so influential on how writers and film makers thought about depicting a slightly dystopic future, plus the interior of Deckards flat is my ideal home, plus a gorgeous female replicant, plus the stunning Rutger Hauer death scene........sorry, going on a bit, but I do love that film and hope the new one does it justice.
Oh, and Deckards gun, and his raincoat .....................

Kind of brilliant but dog shit. Really enjoyed it up until the two androids meet , genuinely enthralling and terrifying and then it descended into plot and character trope hell. Problem is the first one is a a brilliant art house monster slasher B movie in space. You can keep repeating that, which is essentially what we have here or do something else with it, which was Prometheus. Well it would of been Prometheus, but thats mired in the similar problems which I guess making a multimillion pound movie, the studio wants to stick its nose into every second of the shoot and edit.

Anyway as Prometheus - highly trained specialists, who you hardly care about, SF types with PHd's sent on a billion dollar novel space mission keep making one poor decision after another to keep the plot moving. Nah.

I loved the dialogue when one major character says to another - LONG LONG after everything has been going horribly wrong - "you were right, this was a really bad decision"
