I've got a bit of an obsession with Queens of the Stone Age's Mosquito Song, click here if you don't already know it: youtube.com/watch?v=UiLsvRSU5H8&
To me it seems to belong in a genre all of its own. I want more. I already have everything QOTSA have done, so I'm looking to be pointed at other bands/singers whose music has something of the same feel, twisted and melancholic. So far I've found Hawk, as amazon helpfully did their 'people who've bought this also bought...' thing. Suggestions please.
I love QOTSA too and that song in particular. Mark Lanegan adds lots of dark melancholy to their albums, so would agree with Hawk. Try Isobel Campbell & mark Lanegan's Ballad of the broken seas too. Maybe Grinderman's first album too. Try The Bronx' Mariachi El Bronx album for that Mexican feel with introspective storytelling. The Bronx' second album (self titled) with the crystal ball cover might fit the bill too although they are mainly hardcore punk as a rule. Try them out on Spotify first.

Amazon is so clever... I was just looking at White Chalk, wondering if my husband has it, as he's into PJ Harvey, and it tells me I purchased it Oct 2007... so that'll be a 'yes' then. I will pinch it from him

have you tried any of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci? or the Decemberists? they both have something of the same folksy, psychedelic, proggy vein as mosquito song...
