Not long now. Do any UKc regulars have tickets?

Oasis for me were an excellent band formed by Julian Lloyd Webber, Peter Skellern and Mary Hopkin.  Peter Skellern had a super combination of song writing, great piano skills and a lovely voice.

When another band came on the scene in the 1990s, I thought two things.  Firstly, why did they call themselves the same name as another band?  And secondly, their music wasn't doing anything for me in the slightest.  The fact that they became successful and popular baffled me.

Why is it when bands or music is mentioned you can almost guarantee a response like above. It baffles me! We all don't like the same things but for some reason music always ends up with condescending replies. I hadn't heard of the Oasis you speak of and I bet most people haven't.

I hadn't either. But I'm now intrigued enough to look them up and have a listen, . I didn't find JH's post remotely condescending, by the way.

To me his post reads like someone looking down there nose at people for liking and looking forward to go and seeing a band they like. If it wasn't meant like that then I apologise. If it was I just don't understand.

i've read Jh's post half a dozen times now and i still don't get that sense from it. What I did miss on the first couple of reads was Jamie's admiration of Skellern's voice.  I know he's a talented bloke but I always like it better when someone else does the singing for him.

In reply to Tom Valentine:

I suppose I look on Skellern's voice as warm, fuzzy, nostalgic and a little fatherly.  I've been listening to him since I was about ten.  I've always been fascinated and deeply moved by vocal harmonies (I was obsessed with The King's Singers when I was very little).

Apologies for the slight hijack!
