Think Dusk till Dawn meets John Lee Hooker, and you get close to this fantastic slow burner of a film.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you "Sinners"

Major spoiler but I suppose it’s about a month old, so forgivable

In reply to The Lemming: bit more Robert Johnson than John Lee Hooker

Better than "let the right one in / let me in"? (either variation, I like the car crash in the second but I like the cats in the first)

Can't be better than Lesbian Vampire Killers

Was it the Vampires that were lesbians or the killers though?

I would assume both.
Or is that just lustful thinking?

That would be spoilers, you'll just have to watch it and find out

But in all seriousness, Only Lovers Left Alive is a great take on the genre.

that’s a solid 4/10 film!

Rod Hardy’s “Thirst” from circa 1978 is the best one. Only Lovers Left Alive very very tangentially relates to it and is therefore automatically great, plus it features Mia Wasikowska who is the lead in Stoker which is in a weirdly subtle a sort of vampire film.

But a really fun one is Shadow of the Vampire starring Willem Dafoe as Max Shrek, the actor who played Orlok in Murnau’s “Nosferatu”; the fictionalised film plays on and exaggerates the rumour that Shrek was a real vampire and that’s why Murnau cast him. Cleverly silly fun.

I liked Sinners but all these plus some others like Almereyda’s Nadja, are better vampire films. Sinners is more a music film (and in that respect, better than the output of Damien Chazelle)

I think you missed a ‘1’ out of ‘14’ there.

No. 04/10 is accurate. Despite a few fun spots, and totally allowing for when it was filmed and released, and Schumacher’s power and “magic touch” at that time , it’s objectively quite bad, and I’ll happily die on that hill if it comes to it

Quite different movies though.  One is a movie about some vampire killing women who date other women whilst they're not killing vampires.  Sounds cool.

The other is about a group of people targeting vampiric lesbians in a series of hate crimes.  Think I like the sound of the first movie more!

Near Dark has to take the prize for the most stylish I reckon - even allowing for a few dodgy performances.

I liked that. It would have been improved by having Alfie Bass in the cast, though.
