from imdb.com :

"Actor Steven Seagal is seeking an apology from the Federal Bureau Of Investigation, for allegedly harming his career by implicating he hired a private detective to intimidate journalists from writing unflattering stories about him. The 56-year-old has made 12 movies since 2001's Exit Wounds - all have been released directly onto DVD, bypassing cinemas, and Seagal is convinced the leaked release of an October 2002 FBI affidavit linking him to the mob is responsible for his decline in popularity. The affidavit detailed how Seagal hired private eye Anthony Pellicano to threaten reporters, before the investigation focused entirely on Pellicano, who is now in prison awaiting a trial on charges including wire-tapping, But Seagal has never been publicly cleared by the FBI, and the actor wants this done so his reputation is immediately restored, reports the Los Angeles Times. Seagal recently said, "False FBI accusations fuelled thousands of articles saying that I terrorize journalists and associate with the Mafia. These kinds of inflammatory allegations scare studio heads and independent producers - and kill careers." He added, "I was sick of hearing my name associated with a crime the government knew I had nothing to do with. Until it happens to you, you can't imagine what it does to your life.""

You've got to love him, and his movies.
There was one on five tonight, "belly of the beast", and true to form it followed EXACTLY the same pattern we've come to expect from him.

Such elements as:
unlimited bullets from his colt 45
evil, evil BADDIE (usually "ethnic")
"ethnic" sidekick, dies at the end
a daughter is involved somewhere down the line
side shots are minimal, to hide the fact he has a massive beer belly
as in ALL his films, he wears various chinese kung fu shirts, on ALL occasions
most fight scenes shot close up, from neck down to facilitate stunt double
steven's stunt double has very fake ponytail
sped up moves when steve's double can't make the shot
obligatory shot where guns is grabbed out of hand, flipped to point the other way
knife fight, SS loves his knife fights
"mystical" elements hinted at, to make SS more.... "mystic"...

I love him so much. He'd kick Bear Grylls' ass. And Tim Emmetts' too.

Aye, feet splayed, knock knees! He looks funny climbing stairs...
In reply to blueshound:

I've only seen two of his, I think.
Under Siege (under duress), and Executive Decision, which I knew was all about Kurt Russell (but was still surprised at the suddenness of Seagal's departure, he didn't even get to scream dramatically or anything, ha haa!)

Executive Decision is great. It even achieves that rare thing of not having the untrained hero shoot the bad guy, but leaving that task in the more capable hands of a proper Marine. I always remember that detail. And Oliver "rhymes with" Platt is in it and he rules.

Belly of the Beast....someone's having a laugh with these film titles surely! I remember Kim Newman pointing out that van Damme's straight-to-DVD films were titled to reflect the state ofhis career e.g. "Derailed" and "In Hell"

There's a whole slew of them, channel 5 tend to show them two at a time, back to back. Can't remember all the names, but they are all identical anyway.

Some choice extracts from the biography page on imdb.com:

Steven Seagal is a striking and somewhat boyishly handsome looking (often with ponytail) and usually impeccably dressed action star

While his box-office appeal has somewhat declined from his halcyon blockbusters of the mid-'90s, Seagal still has a very loyal fan base in the action movie genre and continues to remain a highly bankable star.

Personal Quotes

"I am hoping that I can be known as a great writer and actor some day, rather than a sex symbol."

"I have also been lucky in the sense that I have been able to make environmentally conscientious movies as well as politically conscientious movies. ABOVE THE LAW was a politically conscientious movie. ON DEADLY GROUND was environmentally conscientious so I want to keep making movies like that which are more geared with a certain entertainment value but also bring people forward into contemplation."

On actors who become political leaders: "Reagan was a pretty good one, but I think it really depends on the situation."

"The secret is not to act, but to be."

"Action films are great, but an action film that has characters that are compelling and a story that people can care about is something even better. "

....uh huh.
Blue....take a letter please

To Mr Steven Segal.....
Dear Mr Segal,
Though mindful of your remarkable talents in the martial arts (and bodyguarding) fields, and of your admirable (but obvious) personal take on a famous Spencer Tracy quote about the acting art, we remind you that you can't act anyway.
Please cease believing you can immediately.
I feel certain the movie going public will continue to finance your castle mortgages (and your undoubtedly large pay-out to Kelly LeBrock); truth is we didn't come to see you "act" anyway.
We bought a ticket to see you kick ass.
Your faithful fan,
etc etc

See that gets off straight away Ms Blue!

(chuckle).

I'm going to write and ask that he breaks Sean Connery a bit more.

Ya don't say.

The only reason to see yet another Segal film are his new fighting moves/choreographs and even those are in far too short supply.
All this fuss and bother to write a script, find a studio, get the film made blah blah blah
.......why not simply insert new fighting scenes into one film?
That's in essence what they're doing anyway.

Why would Social Security love stunt people getting cut with knives? Because the union then pays a portion of the bill?

The only reason to see his films is so it stops his 'blues' band from touring again...!!!

In reply to Blue Straggler: Anyone heard the song Stevie by Royal Trux, which they claimed was a tribute? I thought they were taking the piss but given American folks usual lack of irony, maybe not. Great song though.
