Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a guidebook that covers Ticino/Tessin area of Switzerland and/or Northern Italy. I'm working out there over the summer and know there is some decent climbing but can't locate a decent guidebook.

Many Thanks!!!

The new swiss bloc guide and the other alpine bloc one seem to cover areas north of ticino.

Have a gander at this http://info.rockrun.com/articles/bouldering-in-switzerland.html which shows the front covers of the specific guides for cresciano/chironico.

I had to buy mine in Italy but they should be available when you are over there from a climbing shop I imagine. There may be one in Bellinzona? Hope this helps a bit.

this is THE guidebook for sport climbing and multipitch routes.
italian-german-french, the sketches are informative and easy to understand.

It does not cover :
-most trad/easier multipitches (look for mountaineering guidebooks called "alpi ticinesi", several volumes also edited by SAC)
-bouldering

depending on what you plan to climb, "schweiz plaisir sud" could also be an interesting option...it covers a larger area and will give more ideas for a summer trip but it is limited on "up to 7a" cragging and "up to 6b" multipitches.

oh and for summer forget most climbing below 2000 meters as most stuff is in the sun and will be crazy warm.
(some pleasant exceptions though)

In reply to Daniel James: No shortage of good Italian books - main publisher is Versante Sud. I've got about 20 of their books and have never been dissapointed. Used one ....canton Ticino.

In reply to Daniel James: The guidebook posted up there is great. I think its the swiss alpine club that do it but cant remember quite. costs about 40 Franks if i remember. Full of stuff, from 3a cragging to A4 3 day routes.
Great place to be and live

I've got a copy of this guide that I bought for a trip which didn't happen. Perfect condition. Let me know if you're interested in buying it - it'll be less than 40 Franks!

In reply to ali k: Thanks for your help everyone! The bouldering out there looks awesome so might have to invest in a mat. Ali K: 40 franks is def very steep, what would the price be for your guidebook? Also, what language is it in? I can read french and my partner reads german but our italian is pretty rubbish. Would you be able to send a picture of a page of the book? I can't find a sample anywhere and it would be nice to know we could understand it beforehand. Thanks again for your help.

that guidebook is italian, german and french in the same book. One volume, three languages.

I have been disappointed a few times.
I like their bouldering guides but for rope climbing the quality and accuracy varies a lot within the same book...
for several venues it's ok, but you always have the odd one with fatal errors in the access description ("few minutes" instead of "few meters"...) wrong sketches (route numbers of sector "B" placed on the sketch of sector "A"...) and so on...

better than many local topos but definitely a step below the aforementioned ticino&moesano one, and miles away from the anal retentive precision&detail of something like the Roker's FJ books...
