Hi all,

Having declared this year a right off and cancelling a trip to Rocklands (much crying and wailing) I'm setting sights on February next year as, fingers crossed, I'll be allowed outside by then!!

Any logistics tips, places to stay etc would he gratefully received.

Looking at flying into Oslo and getting an air bnb, any recommendations.

Also how many screws did people take etc?

TIA

Not sure about Oslo, but if you've not been to Norway it's very expensive.

I've stayed in these place in Rjukan

We stayed at a fairly generic, fairly central hotel in Oslo, a three person room was about £35 or £40 each per night.
Imagine a premier inn standard, breakfast included too.

as for Rjukan; I can definitely recommend Sandviken Campsite, get yourself booked into one of the wooden huts they have. Make sure you ask for one with a toilet in it.
Stunning views over a lake to wake up to every morning.
Very clean and modern shower block (free to use) and sauna (small charge) on the campsite too.

It’s about fifteen/ twenty minutes drive out of the Rjukan, but we were glad of it, getting back out of the valley and into some sunshine every afternoon was surprisingly uplifting.

As for ice screws; the more the merrier, you’re bound to blunt one going into stone, drop/lose some. So don’t be shy and take plenty.

As said by the previous poster, it is expensive, you have been warned.

Cheers,

Where did you fly into?

I'm fully aware of how expensive it is

In reply to JRJG:

That's great,

Thanks

Always flown into Gardermoen and then driven to Rjukan immediately, ie not stayed the night in Oslo, it's about a 3 hour drive.

If there are flights into Torp that's in the Rjukan direction, might save a bit of time.

Fly to Oslo, rent a car at the airport. Drive to Rjukan (approx 3 hours) and stay at the Old School Hostel (https://facebook.com/rjukanoldschoolhostel/). Message Jakob for the prices, I haven’t been since 2016 but it’s normally pretty cheap by Norwegian standards. It has a sauna, a workshop (handy for sharpening tools etc.) and a massive communal living area and kitchen.
