most ascents of the matterhorn are done on an alpine start from the hornli hutt and done in a day .was wondering whether it would be possible to do this on a 2/3 day trip.possibly leaving the hornli at about 8am thus breaking the trip up ,possibly sleeping in the solvay hutt and making an earlyish start for the summit from there the following day and returning back down to the hornli hutt or maybe even staying at the solvay hutt again and making your way down the following day.
pros and cons anyone ?

In reply to colina: I stayed overnight at this hut in an emergency situation on descent of the Hornli ridge. It was packed to the rafters with people disregarding the emergency rule, on their way up. Sleep was impossible, as there was only room to sit up. Me and the gentleman to my right kept vying for space, in a hopeless situation. It was definitely the worst night I've ever had on a mountain. Stear well clear is my advice.

In reply to Mark Collins: It's worth noting though that my situation was at the height of the summer season.

Even when empty, the Solvay is pretty squalid. You could always bivi on the balcony though. ;¬)
