Anybody used these things? I'm sick of my shirts smelling like last weeks mince after a few days; laundering isn't always possible; do these things actually perform the way they say?

In reply to Removed User: they work very well, but cost loads. Smart wool make some.

In reply to Removed User: I bought some icebreaker stuff in NZ, it's the dogs danglies!!

In reply to CENSORED: But does it smell like dugs danglers after two three sweaty days?
 CENSORED 12 Mar 2004
In reply to Removed User: Nope! And it's also still warm when it's soaked with sweat or water. I wear my base layer for everything now, paddling, caving, climbing, winter walking/climbing. The lot.

I find that the crotch of the long johns & boxers starts to get a bit minty after about 10 days!

i do a key word search on ebay for the word merino. ive bought 5 assoted merino thin jumpers (about the same thichness as a thermal) for about 20 quid all in. whilst not as sexy as the icebreaker stuff cause the weave is slighly different they do exactly the same job really.
try it. charity shops are worth a look, just check the lables but you'll be able to tell by eye and feel usually.

Went into M&S last week - they were selling the range off - prices as low as £5!

In reply to CENSORED: I could cope with "minty" it's that "finding Fridays kebab on Tuesday" smell I'm trying to avoid. Thanks for the help all, I'm off to Tisos (had a wee windfall this week; I'd only fritter it away on sweets otherwise).

In reply to Removed User: That's what minty means!

They're definitely good for a neutral odour!

In reply to CENSORED: Kind of thought that, didn't really believe that day four kecks would have that tingle fresh mintiness

In the name of scientific research (nothing to do with minging tendancies, honest) I have neglected to wash my Icebreaker top since I bought it. That's 10 days on the hill.

According to the missus it still smells surprisingly OK. I make sure I dry and air it thoroughly after use. I am planning on washing it at some point this year, however.

I like 'em.

In reply to Gman: I like that experiment!! Will be more successful than the "how mucky can I get" experiments as an eight year old, which generally resulted in a sore arse when my Mother appeared.

Got some on order form a much maligned retailer, who were a damn sight cheaper than a well known Glasdgow retailer that should clothe it's staff in a stripey shirt and a bag marked swag.

In reply to Gman: My icebreaker boxers went for 8 days without being removed... except the necessary visits to the hole in the ground... and not a whiff of anything unpleasant when they we removed... Though there were some strange looks and comments when i offered them round for others to judge...

In reply to rich_h: Just wondering ifthe benefits of baselayers such as those by icebreaker/survival/smartwool/ortovox i.e. 100% merino, are evident in blended fabrics such as the M&S range(I was given one for Christmas, a few years ago, and is predominently viscose with no more than 30% merino wool, I've not really worn it much) or Helly Hansens Pro-wool range, anbody experienced both?
