Has anyone used the "Swisspasses.com" rail booking service to get from airport to destination, I.e Zermat?

Looks good on paper and possibly cheaper?

Please advise if you have, many thanks.

I have and it worked out to be excellent value.

Me and my two nippers went from Basel to Grindelwald for £70 return (under 16s added free).

Then all other cable cars and rail journeys were 50%, including the Jungfraujoch, which saved me £35 alone.

Well worth it.

Cheers, Ali

Yes, always used it on Swiss trips. The G/F usually organises it - I think she prefers to phone rather the web site for some reason. The fly-rail baggage thing they'll offer is generally ok but can be a bit hit and miss and it would appear doesn't now get checked on to your flight automatically like it used to on the return trip (security reasons I guess).

Thanks for the info. How does the pass actually work. Does it act as the train ticket, or do you still have to get one albeit with a discount with the use of the card. Also, you say it gives a discount on lift passes? that would be handy. .

How long for a pass to arrive?

many thanks

I ordered my pass a couple of weeks ago and it arrived about 3 days after I ordered it.

You get a pass, which enables you to purchase half price tickets. And yes it includes ski up lifts etc

Thanks Luke, but is the pass a rail pass or a discount offer, I.E, do you still have to pay for a train ticket?

The one I've bought is the "swisscard". As I understand it it allows me free travel from the airport to any destination in switzerland and back, and then 50% off any tickets I buy whilst there. So yes you still ahve to pay for the train tickets, but they'll be half price

Just to be clear for the benifit of the OP...

The pass you get through the post "is" your ticket for the main return trip (Airport to Resort).

You buy tickets for other bus, train & cable car journeys at the stations as you expect, showing your pass to get the discount.

This is the one you'll want.. The SWISS CARD £74

...and I think an ordinary return from Geneva to Zermatt was about the same cost as the card, so the 50% off everything once you're there is genuinely all saving. Of course, you can save even more by walking from the valley but after doing that quite a lot I'm not sure I'd particularly recommend it when there's the choice....

Yes I think that's right

I've just noticed that the website you posted a link to is a different company from the one I have used which is...

http://www.switzerlandtravelcentre.co.uk/

It's the same card you're buying and it appears to £1 cheaper on your site. The Switzerland Travel Centre Ltd (we called the number on the site) does seem to post your documents out quickly. I can't really comment on the efficiency of the site you propose to buy from because I've never used them.

In reply to JLS: not sure if you can get one of these as a non swiss resident, but I have a card called a halbtax, its 65 quid and is half price everything for a year.....trains, buses, trams and some mountain trains and cableways and boats. you cant beat the truy integrated transport system!! Also of use and gain i am not sure if it works on non swiss mobiles, you just text where you are and then a space and where you want to go to to 222 and it texts you back the next 3 trains, trams or whatever means of transport you need with connections
