I think you might be thinking of DMM and/or Wild Country.
There's been a fair bit of discussion about it on here, and the upshot of it all is that under the PPE Regulations, DMM can't re-sling a cam without effectively taking responsibility for the whole unit being up to snuff, which means it needs to be one of theirs and within its (wholly arbitrary) 'sell by' date. (Max 10 years old, I think. Or is it 5?)
The same was true of Wild Country, but they are no longer willing/able to re-sling a cam even if it is one of theirs and brand new. Apparently having outsourced all production, they now lack the ability to sew a simple sling themselves. So caveat emptor - me, I won't buy gear from a 'manufacturer' who isn't capable of carrying out such a simple task themselves.
No such problems in the US of A, where you can be sold a sling by someone who accepts responsibility for just the sling, which just happens to be attached to a cam that you get to make your own decision about.
If you were sending cams all that way anyway, you could send a mix of different types (including Friends) away to return refreshed after a nice holiday in California here: https://www.mtntools.com/cat/rclimb/cams/mt_camresling.htm
